Greetings from Modern Steep. We hope your autumn season is going well thus far. We have a wide variety of things to share with you this month and invite you to grab a cup of tea to enjoy while catching up...
To Give And Receive
It's of no surprise that tea makes a thoughtful gift to others throughout the year on special occasions and especially during challenging times. Toward that end, we’re happy to offer you a $5 online store credit when you send the gift of tea to friends, family and others living outside of your household leading up to the holiday season.
Simply place a tea order designated for shipment to another individual’s address between now and November 20, 2021, and we’ll add a $5 credit to your account for you to use on a future order. This offer is limited to receiving a total of $15 credit (up to three gifted orders). We’ll apply the earned online credit to your account within 48 hours of receiving your order(s) gifted to another individual.
This makes it the joyful season of giving and receiving!
A Heads Up About Shipping
In addition to announcing higher peak-season shipping rates (to no surprise), USPS has also let us know to expect slower-than-usual deliveries this holiday season. So, as you anticipate making holiday orders for destinations outside of the Pacific Northwest or California, sooner is better as these delays begin to mount up. And, due to USPS rate hikes, we may more frequently opt to use other carriers (UPS, FedEx) during this holiday season.
Suggested Order Dates for Hopeful Arrival by Christmas
East Coast: Order by Dec. 2
Mid-West, Southwest: Order by Dec. 5
West Coast: Order by Dec. 10
Note: We’re happy to include notes on the outside of packages such as “Don’t Open Until X-date” upon request. Just let us know using our “Order Comments” field during the checkout process. We want to make this holiday giving season as thoughtful and pleasant as possible.
Ancient Beauty Black Tea
We’re happy to re-introduce a unique black tea that we originally brought in several months ago as one of our Limited Edition teas, Ancient Beauty. Requested back by some folks with exquisite taste, we're offering this tea once again. Hailing from the ancient tea forest situated in the misty Jing Mai Mountains, we hope to keep it on menu as supplies of this very small batch tea permit.
NOTE: If there’s a particular type of pure leaf tea that you’re eager for us to introduce, even for a short time, we’re always thrilled to hear from you. Send us your suggestions, knowing that we’ll do our best to find what you’re after as long as it’s available from an organic certified source with the potential of intriguing other tea lovers within our customer base.
November Spotlight: Cafe Flora
For over 30 years, Café Flora has been serving up creative, award winning vegetarian cuisine in Seattle’s Madison Valley. Food & Wine magazine calls this community-focused establishment “one of the nation’s standout vegetarian restaurants.” We at Modern Steep couldn’t agree more! We have been honored to appear on the Café Flora menu since our earliest days and are sincerely grateful for the relationship we enjoy with the Café Flora family.
Café Flora has always had a strong focus on sourcing local, organic and sustainably produced food. They offer many vegan and gluten-free options as well. And, meat eaters need not shy away from Café Flora as once you’ve had the chance to sample their dynamic, cutting-edge cuisine, you’ll be back for more!
At Café Flora, you’ll enjoy a fun, engaged and friendly staff, along with abundant culinary offerings spanning breakfast, lunch and dinner. And whether seated in their cozy dining room or light-filled atrium, the weekend brunch is also a must-do for any true foodie. Along with your meal, Café Flora offers a number of our organic teas from pure leaf to herbal options. And, the folks behind the bar offer up creative tea-infused cocktails such as their Chamomile Hot Toddy or The Madison – their house Manhattan.
We hope you'll celebrate the world of culinary delights available at Café Flora whether you live in the neighborhood or are just passing through town. With our heartfelt thanks to owner, Nat Stratton, and the incredible, hard-working and creative team at Café Flora, we wish them a most successful future in Seattle and beyond!
Tea Tins, Oh My!
As of this writing, we're eagerly awaiting the arrival of a long-delayed shipment of our large tea tins. As such, our large square gift tins collection is currently unavailable until the shipment arrives. We’ll update our site immediately once the new tins are on hand. We’re currently anticipating arrival of the large tins in late-November, though it’s been a moving target over the past several months.
While our large tin vessels remain on backorder for the moment, we’re happy to have a good supply of our small round gift tins available. A number of our teas are offered in small tins on an individual basis, in designated gift sets and with our new Build Your Own gift set. Check out the collection on our Gift Tins page.
With Tea and Thanksgiving
As you plan your holiday meal preparations, now’s a good time to think about what tea might best accompany your meals. For savory dishes, two of our favorites are Houjicha and Gen Mai Cha. The gently roasted leaves of Houjicha yield a wonderful toasty, caramel-like aroma and taste that pairs exceptionally well with savory meals. Unlike other Japanese teas, Houjicha is not at all grassy or vegetal. And, because it’s one of the naturally lowest caffeinated teas available, it is generally viewed as kid friendly and works well with meals later in the day.
Gen Mai Cha, on the other hand, combines the sweet vegetal nature of traditional Japanese green teas with a nutty characteristic. It is soothing, warming and a true comfort to enjoy with your savory dish. Check out our Tea Pairing page for other pairing ideas in preparation for your holiday spread.
With Gratitude and Warm Wishes
Friendly Faces of Some of Our Tea Producers in Kagoshima, Japan
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your trust in us throughout the year to provide you with healthful tea goodness from the fields of our farmers around the world. Each cup you enjoy is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication that goes into the year-round process of growing and producing tea. The time-honored traditions of tea making are a true labor of love and commitment standing apart from a world filled with highly processed, industrialized foods and sugary beverages. On behalf of our staff and the many tea makers with whom we partner, we’re grateful for your business and look forward to serving you this busy holiday season and into the coming new year.
Happy Thanksgiving from Modern Steep!
