This organically cultivated sheng style (raw) pu-erh is harvested in 2016 from full grown tea trees growing in the famous ancient tea forests situated on the JingMai and Mangjing Mountains. This region in the southern most tip of China's Yunnan Province is widely considered to be the birthplace of tea. This beautiful pu-erh tea is made from tea trees dated to be over 1000 years old. The leaves are hand plucked, allowed to wither and oxidize to a level of about 10% prior to being hand rolled then slowly dried in the sun.
When preparing this young pu-erh for drinking, soak the leaves for about 30 seconds using 175F degree water as a "pre-rinse"; discard the rinse water. Then, steep the rinsed leaves for 1-2 minutes with 175 degree water. The leaves will unfurl to brew up a golden cup with light herbaceous notes, subtle muskiness, and an earthy sweetness having just a slight smoky note. This leaf will stand up to multiple infusions allowing you to enjoy subtle changes with each iteration. Given its young age and the dynamic nature of raw pu-erh teas, the flavors of this tea will continue to evolve over the next several years.
